Philippine Mining at the National to Catchment Scale
Training Ion: Chromotography
Our team at Liverpool John Moores University [Dr Patrick Byrne and Dr Emma Biles] recently attended a training event in Ion Chromatography. Ion Chromatography, or IC, is an analytical instrument used to measure major ion concentrations in water samples. For the Project PAMANA, the IC will be used to measure concentrations of ions that may be indicative of agricultural pollution, including nitrate, nitrite, ammonium and phosphate. These measurements will help us to establish the relative importance of different chemical pressures (mining, agriculture, and urban contaminants) in Philippine catchments.
